How it Works

Keys to match to make you money driving to workHow does CommuterCash.com work?

Commuting sucks. The average commute in the Los Angeles area is about 32 minutes each way – that’s an hour a day. Why not see if you can make a little money while you’re doing it?

When you register at CommuterCash.com, you enter specific information about your drive time every day – through what areas you drive and when, how long it takes you, what freeways you frequent – basically we ask you stuff that’s even more boring than your daily commute. Your commute information is entered into our database.

Local, regional, and national advertisers who have signed up with CommuterCash are able to search for drivers whose routes they believe would benefit them to have advertising on that vehicle. Your vehicle becomes media for an advertisement. In most cases, we’re talking about a 24” x 12” magnetized panel that you put on your car door. In the advertising business, it’s called a "media buy.”

What does it cost to register?

You can register your commute for a one-time-only fee of $12.95. That’s it! There are no yearly renewal fees. We’ll contact you annually to make sure you want to continue your listing in our database, and ask you to update your commute information at that time if anything has changed. You can cancel any time, but your registration fee is non refundable.

Why do you charge people to register?

Ten bucks means you’re serious. There would be little value to our advertisers if the folks who register on the site do so on a whim, or aren’t serious about really being interested in having an advertisement on their vehicle. The small fee ensures that only truly interested people register in our database.

Plus, $1.00 of every registration fee is donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

All right, I’m listening. Tell me more.

For example, you live in Simi Valley, CA and you drive to Calabasas every day during rush hour. That’s about 22 miles taking the 23 and the 101 freeways, and it takes you 40 minutes in traffic. You drive through Simi, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Westlake, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Calabasas. Your car might be seen by 200 other cars during your route every day. The side of your car might be the perfect media buy for a plumber serving those areas who wants his name to be seen by those 200 people. Why not try to make some money on that?

What happens when there’s a match?

When an advertiser finds a likely commuter match in our database, the advertiser contacts the commuter directly with a request through CommuterCash.com. This generates an automatic email to the commuter. The commuter then logs in to CommuterCash.com to review the request. At that point, the commuter can reject the inquiry or accept it. Once the commuter has accepted the inquiry, the advertiser can then contact the commuter directly to arrange an agreement.

What’s likely to be on my car?

Most advertisers request that their commuters attach magnetized panels to the sides of their vehicles, which can be removed evenings and weekends when you aren’t commuting. These magnetic panels will not harm your vehicle. Other modes might be window clings, or in very few cases, even a full vehicle wrap.

How much money can I make?

Offers are made by the advertisers, so your monthly payment would depend on the advertiser and the value of your particular commute to that advertiser.

Who pays for the actual ad?

Advertisers pay for the production all advertisements. If it’s a magnetized panel, you will receive it shipped to you, ready to place on your vehicle.

Are advertisers vetted so I know they’re for real?

Yes. CommuterCash only accepts advertisers that have real businesses and are serious about advertising.

What if I don’t like the advertiser that contacts me?

That’s okay. You can pass. The deal is between you and the advertiser. We provide contract guidelines, but the final agreement is between the commuter and the advertiser.

Will putting an advertisement on my vehicle mess up my car insurance?

CommuterCash has contacted several of the major insurance carriers, including Geico, Mercury, and AAA, and putting an ad on your car does not affect your insurance with these companies. However, YOU, the commuter, are responsible for making sure that your own car insurance is not affected if you choose to place an advertisement on your vehicle.

Are you going to sell my contact information?

No. We will never sell your contact information to third-party marketers. We only release your email address to a potential advertiser once you have approved the inquiry through CommuterCash.

Is my information secure?

Yes. We use SSL encryption for all areas of the site that have your personal information.
